TravelSpirit Gold Medallists Department for Transport (DfT, UK) has published an influential report by University College London (UCL) Transport Institute that identifies the key social and behavioural questions that should be addressed relating to automated vehicles (download here). It urges for there to be a stronger evidence base for enabling a rigorous exploration and appraisal of the potential role of the public sector, including a comprehensive exercise with citizens and organisations to investigate attitudes and likely behavioural responses to the technology. Here at TravelSpirit Foundation we applaud this work, especially if it means that the UK can take a global leadership position in influencing the role of AV technology in delivering a pro-social, inclusive and equitable transport system.
